Karnataka Ration Card e-KYC: Deadline Now 20 October

The Karnataka Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has extended the deadline for ration card e-KYC from 30 September to 20 October 2026. The extension was announced by Minister Rizwan Arshad and reported on 17 and 18 September 2026.

The reason is simple: with roughly 2.67 crore ration card beneficiaries in the state, more than 1 crore were still pending e-KYC, and fair price shops were dealing with long queues and server problems.

What Exactly Has to Be Done

e-KYC means Aadhaar-based verification of every person named on the ration card, not just the head of the family. Children and elderly dependants count too, and an unverified member's name can be removed from the card even if the rest of the family completes it.

Since subsidised rice and other benefits are linked to the members listed on the card, a deletion directly reduces what the household receives.

Two Ways to Complete It

1. At the fair price shop (ration shop)

  • Take the ration card number and the original Aadhaar cards of all members
  • The dealer completes biometric or Aadhaar authentication on the ePOS machine
  • This is free of cost, no dealer should charge for it

2. From home, using your phone

If the member's mobile number is linked to Aadhaar:

  1. Install Mera Ration (Mera Ration 2.0) and Aadhaar FaceRD from Google Play
  2. Enter the ration card and Aadhaar details
  3. Verify by OTP or face authentication

Reports differ slightly on the home route, one describes the state as still "exploring" mobile-based e-KYC while another describes the app route as already working. Try the app first, and fall back to the ration shop if it does not complete.

Keep These Ready

  • Ration card number
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  • LPG connection details
  • Caste certificate for SC and ST beneficiaries

How to Check Your Status

  • On the Karnataka Food Department portal ahara.kar.nic.in, under e-Services and ration card status
  • Or in the Mera Ration app

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline

Beneficiaries who do not complete e-KYC within the revised deadline face suspension of the ration card, or deletion of the unverified members' names. That in turn affects subsidised foodgrain entitlements and any benefit transfers linked to the card.

Given that Karnataka has already extended this deadline once, a further extension is possible, but it is not something to count on with over a crore verifications still pending.

An Important Note for Readers Outside Karnataka

This deadline applies to Karnataka only. Aadhaar-based ration card e-KYC is a national requirement under the food security framework, but each state runs its own drive with its own dates. If you are in another state, check your own state food department portal or the national NFSA site rather than acting on Karnataka's date.

Conclusion

With more than a crore verifications still pending and the deadline now 20 October 2026, Karnataka households should not wait for the last week, ration shops get badly crowded near the cut-off, which is what forced this extension in the first place. Try the app route first, and take all members' original Aadhaar cards if you go to the shop.
