Eligibility
- No upper age limit.
- You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2027.
- Accepted qualifications include the higher secondary certificate (vocational) examination and a recognised 3-year AICTE diploma.
- Attempts: a candidate may appear in both sessions in a year, and may appear in consecutive years.
A separate rule for admission: to take admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs you additionally need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST), or to be in the top 20 percentile of your board. This is an admission criterion, not a bar on appearing in JEE Main.
Application Fee (Previous Cycle)
For Indian centres, Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) alone:
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, male | ₹1,000 |
| General, female | ₹800 |
| OBC-NCL, male | ₹900 |
| OBC-NCL, female | ₹800 |
| SC / ST / PwD / Third gender | ₹500 |
Higher slabs apply if you take both papers, and for centres outside India. These are last cycle's figures, confirm them in the 2027 bulletin.
Documents and Uploads to Keep Ready
- A valid email ID and mobile number that will stay active through the cycle
- Aadhaar, or DigiLocker, passport or PAN as an alternate ID
- Photograph: 3.5 × 4.5 cm, JPEG, 10 to 200 KB
- Signature: 3.5 × 1.5 cm, JPEG, 10 to 100 KB
- Class 10 certificate: PDF, 50 to 300 KB
- Category and PwD/UDID certificates: PDF, 50 to 300 KB where applicable
Preparing these files in advance is the single easiest way to avoid a last-day failure, since most rejections at registration are upload-format problems.
Exam Pattern
Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)
| Subject | MCQs | Numerical value questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Physics | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 5 | 100 |
| Total | 60 | 15 | 300 |
- 75 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours
- Marking: +4 for a correct answer and −1 for an incorrect one, applying to both MCQs and numerical questions under the current scheme
- Two shifts: 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
What Candidates Should Do Now
- Use October and November for the syllabus, not for form-filling anxiety. The registration window will stay open for several weeks.
- Keep an eye on jeemain.nta.nic.in for the information bulletin, that document, not news reports, settles the fee, the syllabus and the exam-city options.
- Practise on a computer, since JEE Main is fully computer based and on-screen numerical entry costs time if unfamiliar.
- Plan for both sessions. The better of the two NTA scores counts, so Session 1 is not a one-shot attempt.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. When is JEE Main 2027 Session 1? 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027, with 31 January as a buffer date. NTA has called these dates tentative.
Q2. When will registration open? Expected in October 2026. NTA has not announced the exact date.
Q3. Is there an age limit? No. But you must have passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or be appearing in 2027.
Q4. How many attempts do I get? Two per year, one in each session, and you may appear in consecutive years.

Q7. Which score counts if I appear in both sessions? The better of the two NTA scores.
Conclusion
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 lands in the last week of January 2027, which gives candidates roughly four months. Registration is expected to open in October 2026, keep documents scanned to the prescribed sizes, watch jeemain.nta.nic.in for the bulletin, and treat the fee and dates here as last cycle's pattern until that bulletin confirms them.
Disclaimer: Exam dates are from NTA's 2026-27 calendar released in mid-September 2026 and are marked tentative by NTA itself. Registration dates, fee and document specifications are carried from the previous cycle and are not yet confirmed for 2027.
