DA Hike July 2026: What Employees Can Expect

About 48.66 lakh central government employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners are waiting for the second Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) revision of 2026, due from 1 July 2026. Based on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) data for January–June 2026, a 3 percentage point hike is widely expected, which would take DA from 60% to 63% of basic pay.

Important: As of now, the hike has not been officially approved. The Union Cabinet usually clears the July revision in September or October, often ahead of the festive season, with arrears from July.

How Much Will Your Salary Increase?

DA is calculated on basic pay. A 3% increase in DA means 3% of your basic pay is added every month.

Pay LevelEntry basic payDA at 60%DA at 63%Monthly gain
Level 1₹18,000₹10,800₹11,340₹540
Level 4₹25,500₹15,300₹16,065₹765
Level 6₹35,400₹21,240₹22,302₹1,062
Level 7₹44,900₹26,940₹28,287₹1,347
Level 10₹56,100₹33,660₹35,343₹1,683
Level 13₹1,23,100₹73,860₹77,553₹3,693

Pensioners get the same percentage increase in Dearness Relief on their basic pension. For example, a basic pension of ₹9,000 would rise by ₹270 a month.

What About Arrears?

Because the hike takes effect from 1 July 2026, employees will receive arrears for every month between July and the month the new rate is first paid. If the new rate is paid with October salary, a Level 1 employee would get about ₹540 × 3 = ₹1,620 in arrears for July to September.

How DA Is Calculated

Under the 7th Pay Commission formula, DA is based on the 12-month average of AICPI-IW published by the Labour Bureau. The Labour Bureau releases the index every month; once the June figure is out, the July DA percentage is effectively fixed, and only Cabinet approval remains.

DA and the 8th Pay Commission

The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted in November 2025 and is holding consultations, with recommendations expected around mid-2027. Its reference date for implementation is 1 January 2026. When the new pay matrix is adopted, accumulated DA is normally merged into the revised basic pay and DA restarts from zero. Until then, the half-yearly DA revisions under the 7th CPC continue.
