Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
As per the advertisement, the written test is of 2 hours and carries 100 marks:
| Subject | Part | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| General Knowledge | Objective, 50 questions of 1 mark each | 50 |
| English Composition | Objective part | 20 |
| English Composition | Subjective part: Essay (10), Letter (5), Precis (5), Translation from Hindi to English (10) | 30 |
| Total | 100 | |
- Negative marking: 1/4 mark is deducted for every wrong answer in the multiple choice questions.
- Qualifying marks: 33% in each subject and 40% in the aggregate of both subjects.
How to Calculate Your Expected Score
- Compare your recorded responses with the provisional answer key for the objective questions.
- Give +1 mark for every correct answer.
- Deduct 0.25 mark for every wrong answer.
- Give 0 for questions not attempted.
- Add your General Knowledge and English objective scores. The subjective English part (30 marks) is checked separately, so it cannot be estimated from the answer key.
Example: If you attempted 60 objective questions and 48 were correct, your objective score is 48 − (12 × 0.25) = 45 marks.
Selection Process After the Written Exam
- Computer Proficiency Test (qualifying): a Spread Sheet Test of 10 marks in 10 minutes (minimum 40% needed) and a Word Processing (typing) Test at a minimum speed of 30 words per minute.
- Merit: the merit list is based on written examination marks only. In case of a tie, the elder candidate is placed higher, and then alphabetical order of surname is used.
